June 16, 17, 18, 2010  (wed. – fri.) 9 am – 4 pm

PASTEL FOR BEGINNERS
3 days     $165.00 –
limited to 6 students. $50. down payment to secure place in class.   This class is designed to be a starter class for people with little to no art training who want to begin learning about drawing, color, seeing and getting acquainted with basic art principles and the beauty of pastel. We will start with basic exercises and use simple still life arrangements to understand the concepts. There is no pressure to make paintings, only daily exercises to build confidence and understanding. In just three days you will be amazed and pleased with your progress.

Supplies will be available on site for your use and purchase. Details will be discussed upon enrollment.

June 23, 24, 25, 2010  (wed. – fri.) 9 am – 4 pm

PASTEL LANDSCAPE FOR BEGINNERS
3 days     $165.00 –
limited to 6 students. $50. down payment to secure place in class.   This class is designed for people who have had at least one class in pastel or are familiar with the basics of another medium but want to learn about pastel for landscape painting. We will continue to develop skills in drawing, color, seeing and getting acquainted with basic art principles and the beauty of pastel. We will start with basic exercises and use photographs to understand the concepts. If the weather allows we will also go outside on location. There is no pressure to make finished paintings, only daily exercises to build confidence and understanding. You may bring your own photographs to work from.

July 7, 8, 9, 2010 (wed. – fri.) 9 am – 4 pm

PASTEL PORTRAITS 
3 days     $165.00 –limited to 6 students. $50. down payment to secure place in class.   This class introduces the basics of portraiture with emphasis on getting a likeness and using the pastel medium. We will work with photographs and from a live model. Lighting, posing, light and shadow, color and value will be covered. We will start thinking about the anatomy of the head and thinking three-dimensionally. This is a wonderful way to start learning about portraits, even if you will eventually be working in other media. This class would be best for those who have had at least one pastel or drawing workshop.

July 21, 22, 23, 2010  (wed. – fri.) 9 am – 3 pm

PASTEL for YOUNG PEOPLE                               

3 days     $150.00 –limited to 6 students. $50. down payment to secure place in class.   This class is for youth (ages 10 to young teens) who are showing a serious interest in learning about art. We will be learning art basics, concentrating on the pastel medium. The class will involve drawing, color and seeing like an artist. We will have fun but students are expected to be kind and happy to be part of the class. We will break for lunch at one of the nearby cafes.

THE COLORS OF AUTUMN in Pastel!
3 days     $205.00
Through the still life and landscape, we will explore the color palette of autumn, through the beautiful Pastel medium. The rich hues of this season will be featured in studio still life set ups and photographic resources for landscape. We will be learning how to create compositions that are filled with light and color. We will learn how to make stronger paintings that really say what you envision. Complete technical information about working with Pastel will be shared. Daily demos and personal attention at each student’s easel.

THE ART OF THE STILL LIFE  in Pastel!
3 day workshop in conjunction with the PSSW annual competition.  

$275.00 members    $300.00 non-members

Through the art of the still life we will explore how to create compositions that are filled with light and color. I will share my approach to setting up a composition with regard to my concept. We will learn how to make stronger paintings that really say what you envision. We will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of planning, of seeing and drawing more accurately, of  values and the vital relationship between light and shadow. Principles learned in this workshop will also apply to figure and landscape painting. Complete technical information about working with Pastel will be shared. Daily demos and personal attention at each student’s easel. Students at all levels of ability are welcome.
